Porn To Be Free Carmine Amoroso Documentary

A new documentary about porn and the sexual revolution in Italy in the 60’s and 70’s has just launched an IndieGoGo campaign.

PORN TO BE FREE is a provocative documentary that explores the sexual revolution from the 70’s and 80’s through the incredible genesis of porn from the first magazines, first photo shoots to the first porn stars. The film is directed by controversial Italian director Carmine Amoroso and has been produced in an entirely independent way, without the support of any institution or broadcaster. This is why the team behind the film is launching a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo to fund postproduction and make the film ready for festivals and theatrical distribution.

From Italy to Denmark and California, PORN TO BE FREE follows, in a funny yet deep and political way, those who have made the sexual revolution possible. It is an archive and a social commentary on being sex positive in a society that prevents us from being sexually free. In the wake of the protest movement in 70’s and 80’s Europe, a freedom group of porn stars and filmmakers fought to break down social barriers and taboos in a continent that was still a prisoner of the catholic and communist sexual hypocrisy. The film features the main protagonists of that time, including porn star Cicciolina and her mentor and pornographer Riccardo Schicchi, pioneer director Lasse Braun, as well as key feminist figures Giuliana Gamba and Lidia Ravera. The film also reveals the story of an unpublished short porn animation by Charlie Hebdo’s caricaturist Siné.

“I would have never thought of getting so much resistance and censorship while doing this film,” says director Carmine Amoroso. “I realize now that even today the word “porn” scares. For this reason, doing this documentary was even more important, giving a voice to those who have fought for the freedom of speech and for all kinds of freedom.”

Fans and supporters who pledge towards the project can be amongst the first to see this revolutionary documentary as well as receiving very rare films such as Amoroso’s previous movies, the cult porn Cicciolina and the Atomic Orgy or even the first feminist porn film directed by Giuliana Gamba.

The director, Carmine Amoroso, is a writer, a screenwriter and a director. After writing numerous award-winning screenplays, he marked his debut with Embrasse-moi Pasqualino starring Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci – the first Italian movie to talk about the life of being transgender. His second feature film, Cover Boy, which represented Italy in more than 90 film festivals worldwide, won multiple awards and was one of the 3 finalists to represent Italy at the Academy Awards in 2009.
